A very fine example of a mid 19th Century (I’ve always known them as) a great Western Railway chair. For those of you that are familiar with Thomas the Tank Engine... this must’ve been made for the fat controller…..the main man!!
It is a very fine example made in mahogany with a well sculptured seat, shepherd’s crook arms, crinoline stretcher and turned front legs in very original condition. It’s a great colour with lovely patination. For me, it would look fantastic by the side of a fire in a pub, where one of the regulars could sit and read the paper and have a pint. It has a presence.
I would suggest re-upholstering the back cushion in a quality leather with a couple of buttons. We will do this included in the price and using one of our stock leathers. Please contact us for more information.
We will check it over, put it through the workshop, protect that lovely character, and make sure it is rock solid before it leaves our factory in Stafford.
